Von Bergen family

I grew up in the Chicago area and trusted in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior when I was seven.

I attended Wheaton College on an ROTC scholarship, majoring in geology. After graduating, I served in the regular Army in Virginia, Korea, and Colorado. After completing my service in the Army, I returned to school for an M.S. and a Ph.D. in geology. I have worked as a geologist with a major oil company and have taught high school physics and earth science at Salina South High School. But for the last 23 years, I have served as an administrator and professor at Kansas State University Salina.

I have been a member of Faith Bible Church for many years, serving in many teaching roles for the most part. For the last 15 years, I have been privileged to serve as a shepherd-elder.

I have been happily married to Laura for 45 years. We have two grown daughters and one son-in-law.  I enjoy outdoor recreation (fishing, hiking, canoeing) and doing hands-on projects.

One of my favorite books is the simple but effective book, More Than a Carpenter by Josh McDowell, a book I give away copies of as I have the opportunity. Three favorite scripture passages that encourage and direct me are John 14:6 (Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me."), Ephesians 5:25 (Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her.), and Hebrews 13:5 (...for He Himself has said, "I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you.").
